TourismNature Trails & HikesPort Elgin boasts over 70 kilometers of trails. These greenway corridors offer a variety of both linear and looped trails using abandoned railway lines, logging roads, and paths. Since there are no significant grades, access, whether by hiking, walking, or cycling is relatively easy. They offer the perfect opportunity to study nature, and be one with the environment. These rambling trails allow you to travel through riverside parks, woodlands and open fields. Salt marshes and dykes are alive with the sights, and sounds of native wildlife and plants. The Lupin Trail is a challenging 7 km rural-countryside trail. Starting
at Moore Road along the abandoned Coburg Road, Highway 16 to Cherry Burton Road,
onto the Community of Baie Verte, the Red-Winged Blackbird Trail and the Baie
Verte Railway Trail. The Red-Winged Blackbird Trail is located in the nearby village of Baie
Verte. This 2-km walking trail begins at Goodwin Park, and follows Goodwin Pond
to the upper reaches of the Baie Verte salt marsh. Goodwin Pond was established
by Ducks Unlimited in 1981, and is now home to more birds per acre than any other
pond in the province of New Brunswick. The Trans-Canada Trail utilizes the abandoned railway corridor to form
a link between Sackville, NB and Cape Tormentine, NB. No motorized vehicles are
permitted on the trail, allowing cycling, hiking and horseback riding and cross-country
skiing during the winter months. Wildlife sightings await you! Parks & Picnic Areas
